(12th Jan, 2011) Another update

Android Police is reporting that Adam has ran into another impediment as it gets ready to be shipped.

US buyers have received email notifications that their orders are ready to ship out, except for that little matter of FCC approval. We’ve yet to see the Adam pass the FCC — perhaps because it hasn’t done so quite yet — and the tablet will need to have its paperwork in order and be properly labeled before it can be imported into the US.

Notion inc say that they will take care of this in a week’s time. Lets see what happens, we hope Adam sees the warmth of a customer’s hand really soon. Stay tuned for more

(10th Jan, 2011) Its update time people…

Notion Ink sells out of Adam

Notion Ink has sold out of its pre-order stock of the Adam tablet, though the 10-inch Tegra 2 powered slate isn’t expected to ship until early January 2011. Supplies of the Pixel Qi version of the Adam were snapped up within hours of the tablet going on sale earlier this month; it’s taken around a week and a half for stock of the cheaper LCD version to be accounted for.

We will be back with more on Adam!

Developed by Indian company Notion Ink and the brain child of Rohan Shravan, an engineering graduate from IIT Kharagpur , the Adam runs on NVIDIA’s Tegra T20 chipset and Android. It supports 1080p Full HD video playback, has integrated WiFi, Bluetooth and UMTS/HSDPA, A-GPS, a digital compass, accelerometer and proximity, ambient light and water sensors. And yes it does have a 3-megapixel autofocus camera with video recording support and supports Flash. Connectivity options include USB, HDMI, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microphone input.

The Adam is quite slim measuring 6.3 x 9.8 x 0.6 inches and weighing 770 gms. It has 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage and uses the Pixel Qi transflective display.

Notion Ink’s Adam will allow 8hrs of HD video playback and 16hrs of internet surfing over WiFi.

Pricing hasn’t been announced but is expected to be revealed at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

  2. This is really great.. I wish this works perfectly.. For sure it has covered all the disadvts of I-pad like adding flash, HD videos..

  3. Thank you Mohan…Indeed this is a great gadget and if it lives up to its expectations…who knows this gadget could take Indian innovation places!

  4. I totally agree with you Lahari…this is bound to be a true game changer!

  5. Though some of the details went over my head (* not a very techy person….:(( *) …it sounds gr8!!!
Feeling proud for The fellow Indian:)

  6. Absolutely…:)

  7. Congrats ! team India !
from the preliminaries , it looks like Adam is going to chew Apple outright. It has beauty and brains !
If only the pricing is proper , its going to be a hot cake !
Ofcourse it should work well !
    No glitches !!!

  8. The hardware’s one thing. The OS and software are another matter entirely. Will these be better than Apple’s in this case? Hmmm. I doubt it.

  9. @ Dr. Madhu – I totally agree with you :)

@Padster – At the onset, it’s hard to believe a new gadget competing with Apple..but I’m sure with time…ADAM will come up and will be in the high-end gadgets league.

  10. WOW! amazing gadget. It is choc-a-bloc with features. Must say this gadget is an excellent device and fills a void, if there is any, between a cell phone and a laptop. I wouldn’t call it an innovation but it surely is good to know that such a device is being made by an Indian company.
Wondering though why its called Adam? Probably to target international markets. In that case, I wonder if the product will be launched in India as well?

  11. awesome..it needs attention..

  12. This proved that India is birthplace of knowledge

  13. @Nishant – Im sure it will come to India as well..since its an Indian’s creation

@jerry – you bet it does:)

    @Vidit – Thats absolutely true :)

  14. Looks so cool :)
    Indians do rock :)

  15. Absolutely mind blowing invention indeed. Hats off to Shravan. Hope ‘Adam’ will be marketed well & make to the top. Come on India!

  16. @ Shipla – Yes, India & Indians both rock :)

@ AR – I agree with you…some good marketing and the ADAM will rock the world:)

  17. This is the bomb! The best part is that saffron threaded bracelet (lachcha??) on the wrist of the person displaying the screen in the picture. Suweet:-):-)

  18. Yes, it is indeed a BOMB..:)…I hope it gets popular and works big time, that’ll be a great achievement for India.

  19. OK, let’s say Adam does kill Apple, then who’s going to be the Adam Killer? @Dr.Madhu

  21. Oh WOW! its a wow feeling :) I think we’ve come of age..! :-)

  22. @Ashes_of_roses – Yes, thats true…now its just a matter of marketing this product and it might give the iPad…a run for its money :)

  23. Arghh damn ipad.. have to say, I’ve been entirely unimpressed with this device in the run-up to release, but in reading this review, I was actually swayed for the first time and felt the impulse to go out and buy one. I won’t… yet… not until they can cram a few more of the missing features into a future release. I really need a digitizer/stylus for note-taking and a USB port to offload files.

  24. @Web Gamer – That’s a good idea…waiting a while would help settle the tablet wars and understand who emerges as the best of the lot :)

  25. Hi,

The video has been removed, time to replace it. :)

    Piyush

  26. @Piyush – the video is back…thanks :)

  27. Looks cool! I expect it to be cheaper than IPad

  28. Unfortunately, it’s still not here!! Too bad, would have loved to buy it..Now I am trying to decide if Ipad is worth it…

  29. @Nishu – Yes, it will surely be cheaper than Ipad

@Sheba – It is not in India currently, but India will soon be getting its own tablet Olive VT100…check out the details here – http://theopinion.in/indias-first-3g-tablet-olivepad/

  30. Great product Nice presentation and overall INDIANNNNNNN

  31. When its going to launch, We are interested to take distributorship kalashtelecom@gmail.com

  32. don’t be so sure about it… apple stuff sells because it is made by apple and that company is influential.

  33. great,it is like dream coming true.hats off to the team.feel proud .

  34. Nice hardware. Better specs, however, does not guarantee people will choose the product. A lot of factors are still at play. The apple brand still makes a good choice because of its perceived high quality & style. But anything’s possible. Good luck!

    • Yes, does not guarantee anything but it has the potential to challenge a big gun like apple if it is backed by proper marketing!

  35. Winning Formula will be the following.
U can get this gadget manufactured @ 100USD. with a Chinese firm
As a marketer put ur thoughts into it in terms of Apps loaded. In my experience Stable Wifi connectivity is a challenge..
Marketer sells this to consumer @ USD 300. Spend 50 USD for Marketing and 50USD for Future research n development.
In this case u beat Apple n Samsung the big guys..
Take the challenge n do it
    All the very best

    Sujesh

  36. Nice info.
Hoping that it is as fantastic as video..
Atleast this time v dont have to pay all that import tax ……….
